Job Vacancy Description

Assess the skills and experience required for the vacant position(s). Understand the important soft factors such as personality, attitude and work ethic that will lead to success at the respective employer. Determine the Federal Government National Occupational Code (NOC) and category for the occupation. Ensure that the wage or salary offered meets government criteria for foreign workers in that particular occupation and province.

If necessary, apply for Labour Market Opinion (LMO) through Human Resource and Social Development Canada (HRSDC).

2
Recruitment Strategy

Prioritize source countries. Present options to clients. Set timetable and schedule interview dates. Develop a company and community orientation package for prospective foreign workers so they may better understand the opportunities and challenges of living and working in Canada.

3
Screening and Selection

Pre-screen and evaluate candidates. Develop short-list. Reference checks are conducted and work permit documentation is reviewed. Employer makes final decision and employment contract is signed. If necessary, send letter to HRSDC to have foreign worker information added to the LMO.

4
Visa Application

Foreign worker’s documentation is prepared and submitted to the appropriate visa office in the Canadian embassy. Please note that a slightly different process is required if a provincial nominee application is necessary.

5
Arrival and Settlement

SCG will work with the employer to schedule airport pickup, settlement (i.e. housing), orientation and training for the newly arrived foreign workers. Follow-up and post-arrival assistance is also provided.
